Ringing the bell of the little red school house may be a thing of the past, but being prepared to start school with all supplies necessary for a successful year is not. Once again, the Sharing Center invites individuals, churches, civic organizations, and local businesses to participate in its Back-to-School campaign efforts to make sure every young person West of the I will achieve this goal.
The Sharing Center officials report there is a large group of people who will be receiving supplies this year, so the need for sponsors is greater than ever.
Several creative and caring ways are available for you to become a Sharing Center sponsor:
- You can go store-to-store shopping the sales for school supplies.
- You can submit a monetary donation
- You can purchase a voucher in the amount of $40 for a school pack and/or a voucher in the amount of $20 for shoes.
- You might want to adopt a student yourself and provide a complete set of school supplies and shoes.
As in previous years, the center has secured grade-level lists from all schools in Western Kenosha County and is waiting for you to stop in for a list or call for additional details. You may contact The Sharing Center at 997-0783 or visit the website at www.sharingcenter.net. The Sharing Center is located just north of Highway 50, at 7001 236th Ave., next to the municipal building in Paddock Lake. Please be sure to bring all merchandise to the center by Friday, Aug. 6.
To distribute the supplies, a Back-to-School Fair is planned for Aug.17 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the center.
Income-qualified children will receive hair cuts, immunizations and teeth varnishing along with school supplies and shoes. In addition, the afternoon promises tips on bicycle safety from Officer Friendly, food share signup, and entertainment.
