The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department and Wisconsin State Patrol located a mother and her three children who were part of an Amber Alert notification, Monday afternoon. Kenosha County 911 reported a call around 4:15 p.m., and at approximately 4:30 p.m. 34-year-old Lavatta Smith and her children were pulled over on I-94 just north of Hwy. K in Kenosha County.
The driver who was heading northbound on I-94 heard the Amber Alert on his radio, noticed the car being sought was driving in front of him, and he called authorities with the car’s description and license plate numbers. Several minutes later, authorities pulled the car in question over.
Lavatta Smith was arrested by State Troopers. The woman’s three children were taken into another state patrol vehicle. State Patrol officials say everyone appears to be safe and unharmed.
Smith, along with her children, Javious, Jaleiah and Katera Thicklen were last seen in the 6100 block of W. Bladwin Street, Milwaukee. They were discovered missing during a fire investigation at their home early Monday.
Monday afternoon, Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn indicated the family’s home was “uninhabitable,” without a single scrap of food or clothing.
