The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a crash with serious injuries this afternoon on Interstate 94 at Highway 50.
At 1:07 p.m. deputies and fire/rescue personnel responded to a crash on I-94 southbound at Highway 50. Information at this time is very limited. It is a two-vehicle crash. Flight for Life has responded for a child that may be injured, but as a precautionary measure.
I-94 is closed for southbound traffic at Hwy 158. Vehicles may re-enter at Hwy 165 (Highway C is closed for construction). I-94 is closed for northbound traffic at Highway 50. Vehicles may re-enter at Highway 158.
I-94 northbound was to re-open when Flight for Life is back in the air). At this time it is unknown when SB will re-open. It will depend on the length and detail necessary for the crash investigation.
The vehicles involved were initially reported as a semi-truck and an SUV.
UPDATE — The Sheriff’s Department reports: The crash involved a van and a commercial utility truck with a water tank on the back. It appears that congested traffic had slowed entering the construction area at Highway 50 on I-94 southbound. The driver of the utility truck rear-ended the van. An 8-year-old child in the back seat of the van sustained a serious leg injury and was transported by Flight for Life. Citations may be issued. There are no criminal charges pending.
I-94 re-opened as of 3:10 p.m.
