Silver Lake Firemen’s Festival set for Fourth of July weekend

The Silver Lake Fire Department’s Annual Firemen’s festival will take place at Schmalfeldt Park July 2 and 3.

As they did last year, the Silver Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Fire Department to expand the range of activites available.

The festival will kick off Friday with the second annual SLFD baggo tournament. There also will be music, food and beverages from 5 p.m. to midnight.

On Saturday, there will be fire department water fights from noon to 3 p.m. (registration at 10 a.m.) and businessmen water fights from 3 to 6 p.m.

Music will be by The Dixie Doodlers from 1 to 3 p.m.

The second annual SLFD Duck race will take place at 5 p.m.

The band FLOOG will play from 7 p.m. to midnight.

Adding to the fun will be a number of activities organized by the chamber.

Competition in the businessmen water fights from 2009.

Antique tractors owned by members of the Antique Tractor Club will be on display. A working steam engine will be used to cook sweet corn that will be sold by the chamber.

Deb Scully, owner of the Silver Lake Grill, is sponsoring a Cardboard Boat Race. Those wishing to try their luck can sign-up and pick up a kit at the chamber booth starting at 11 a.m. Launch from DeWitt Park, the beach across the street from the grill, will be at 5 p.m. Click here for list of rules and sign-up sheet. The chamber also will be sponsoring a 50/50 raffle. Half of the proceeds will benefit the chamber’s community events fund, while the other half will be distributed to three winners. Tickets will be sold all day with the drawing at 7 p.m.
