Organizer Bill Beth shared this report on the Central High School post prom event held at the Kenosha YMCA:
You should have seen Cecelia Schroeder’s face when her ticket number was called at about 3:15 a.m. on April 25. She was so excited. She had just won the 8 GB iPod touch at the 2010 Post Prom Party. You might expect that the crowd of 62 students would have been tired by that time of the morning, but not this group of crazy Central students. They had been swimming in the pool, climbed the rock wall and shot hoops in the open gym. Fueled by the great food donated by Bristol 45 Diner, Luisa’s and Olive Garden, the group danced like mad from 1 a.m. until 4 a.m. And they weren’t just doing any dance. Thanks to M & R Entertainment the dancing included group dances from Thriller and Grease, along with beach balls and sun glasses. Hey how ‘bout a worm contest or the human square?
Brant Gundersen said, “Winning the 32 GB iPod touch was awesome.†Suzy Silberschmit came a little late, but she was sure glad she did! At about 3:50am Suzie’s ticket was pulled. She wasn’t bashful about claiming the Xbox 360 elite. Then there are all the students who won gift certificates from Twisted Cuisine, Bristol Tire, Brass Ball Mobil, and countless other places that donated prizes. The community really stepped in to provide a great activity for Central’s students to enjoy after prom. The real prize is getting to hang out with a bunch of friends after prom, having a blast. When I was able to get Josh Gunderson to put down his Texas Roadhouse cowboy hat, he said, “I am glad to have been able to be on the planning committee to provide a great environment where kids don’t have to worry about being pressured into destructive behavior after prom. All we have to do is have a great time.â€
Sheriff David Beth was enthusiastic about the great turn out. He was glad to see that a group of students made a smart choice to have a great time. “Winning an iPod sure beats winning an underage drinking ticket, Sheriff Beth said. “Life is about choices. 62 Central students made a great choice by attending the after prom party on April 24th.â€
So much fun, and so little time. I wonder what the grand prize will be next year. I’m thinkin’ flat screen! Post Prom 2011, May 7th. Come on out!
