The 2010 Southern Lakes Varsity Football Combine will be Saturday May 22 at Wilmot High School – Bucci Field or Veteran’s Memorial Fieldhouse.
The event starts at 8 a.m. -with height and weigh-ins. Testing/competitions begin around 8:45 p.m.
Schools that have been invited to participate are: Wilmot Panthers, Central Falcons, Badger Badgers, Burlington Demons, Delavan-Darien Comets, Elkhorn Elks, Waterford Wolverines and Union Grove Broncos.
“Our coaching staff is very excited to host the second annual Southern Lakes Varsity Football Combine,” said Mike Greinke, Wilmot Union High School head football coach. “Last year we had participation from all but two schools in the conference and we’re hoping for more this year.”
The event is free of charge to athletes; up to 25 athletes are invited to the combine by their coaching staffs.
Medals will be awarded to winners in each category.
Admission for spectators: $2 adults, $1 students/children.
Position groups will be filmed and a DVD will be available to players so that they can send them off to colleges of their choice.
Players will be broken down into the following areas:
- Linemen.
- Backs, linebackers and tight ends.
- Perimeter — wide receivers and defensive backs.
Players will be tested in the following areas:
- Vertical jump
- 40-yard dash
- Shuttle run
Football specific skills may be added as well. These will be timed on Wilmot’s “Sprint Turf†artificial football field. Players should bring football cleats and athletic shoes
There also will be a weight lifting stage after measurements and running:
- “Touch Chest†Bench Press – 10 rep maxout.
- Parallel Squat – 10 rep maxout.
“I know how excited kids get being a part of these combines,” Greinke said. “Unfortunately, they can cost as much as $90 to $100. I really want to get that positive energy going and get kids in our conference excited about next season. When players get measurements like this together they get a chance to see what ‘the best’ look like. That’s a great motivating factor to work hard over the summer. Also, I’ve had numerous colleges tell me that they want a copy of the DVD to see perspective recruits. I really feel this is a win-win for everyone involved.â€
