Kenosha County Executive Jim Kreuser has joined with Governor Jim Doyle in proclaiming May 12, 2010, as NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards Awareness Day. “NOAA Weather All Hazard Radios are a key emergency notification device,†said County Executive Kreuser. “Weather All-Hazard Radios are known as smoke detectors for severe weather and hazardous conditions and like a smoke detector, every household, business and school should have one.â€
The purpose of the NOAA Weather Radio All Hazards Awareness Day is to encourage residents to be prepared for all hazards/emergencies by being informed of potential severe weather and non-weather emergencies. A NOAA Weather All Hazards Radio is a 24-hour source of weather and non-weather emergency information. NOAA Weather All Hazard Radios range in price from $15 – $60; with the difference being the types of options you want and whether it is a desktop or portable model.
The more expensive NOAA Weather All Hazards radios have Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) Technology, which allows users to program their radios for not only multiple counties, but multiple types of emergencies. Each area of the Nation has been assigned a specific frequency; the frequency assigned to Kenosha/Racine Counties is 162.450.
