Paddock Lake will celebrate Arbor Day, and its ongoing status as a Tree City USA, on Saturday, April 24, at 10 a.m. at Pathway Glen Park in the 6100 block of 248th Avenue.

Ludwig Nursery, Brighton, is donating the tree to be planted by Cub Scout Pack 328. Also expected to attend are state Rep. Samantha Kerkman and Kim Sebastion from the state Department of Natural Resources, said village Trustee Karen Harris, who organized the event.

Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.

Hosting an Arbor Day ceremony is one requirement for Tree City USA status,  which the village has earned for 11 years.

According to Wikipedia, “Arbor Day was founded in 1872 by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska City, Nebraska. By the 1920s, each state in the United States had passed public laws that stipulated a certain day to be Arbor Day or Arbor and Bird Day observance.”
