This week is Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week in Kenosha County and around the state.
Here some National Weather Service severe weather statistics for Kenosha County supplied by the Kenosha County Emergency Management:
- 210 Severe Thunderstorm Watches, 176 Severe Thunderstorm Warnings (1982 – 2009)
- 79 Tornado Watches, 16 Tornado Warnings and 9 Tornadoes (1982 – 2009)
- 48 Flood events, 8 Presidential Disaster Declarations for Flooding (1982 – 2009)
- 41 Hail storms resulting in injuries & millions of dollars in property damage (1982 -2009)
- 18 Lightning events causing 6 deaths/injuries and property damage/fires (1982 – 2009)
- 97 Severe Thunderstorm Wind events 50 mph – 99 mph (Hurricane-Force Winds are 74 mph or greater) with 2 events having winds of 100 mph or greater (1982 – 2009).
