Dog park access will return to Randall Town Board agenda

Allowing the county to access a proposed off-leash dog park at an under development county park through an existing Randall town park parking lot will return to a future Randall Town Board meeting agenda.

Supervisor Rose Nolan asked for the reconsideration.

Stoll said the new discussion will be confined to the access because all other matters concerning the park are under the county’s jurisdiction. He likened telling the county where to locate the park when it already is zoned poerptly adn a permitted use would be like telling a farmer not to grow certain crops.

At recent meetings, residents near the park have been speaking out against the park based on conerns for sanitation with dog waste in the dog park near the picnic area in Bassett Park.

The county is currently raising funds to create dog parks at Petrifying Springs County Park in Somers and the so-far unnamed park that is adjacent to Bassett Park.

The board voted 4 to 0 to put the item on a future agenda, an advisory vote since the town chairman actually sets the agenda. Supervisor Ken Mangold abstained from the vote because he felt it came during an inappropriate part of the meeting.

But Chairman Bob Stoll pointed out that the board will confine its new deliberation to the question of the access and not the location of the park itself, which has become a item of discussion during citizen comments at several recent Town Board meetings.
