Worksites sought for Summer Youth Employment program

The 2010 Summer Youth Employment program is looking for mentoring worksites.

The 2010 Summer Youth Employment program provides training and work experience for youth between the ages of 14 and 21. The Boys and Girls Club of Kenosha is currently recruiting mentoring worksites/employers for eligible youth. This program is made possible through funding from Kenosha County and the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and is administered by the Kenosha County Department of Human Services.

After assessment and job training, youth are available to work 20 hours per week for 8-10 weeks at no cost to the mentoring worksites/employers. Worksite coordinators will be encouraged to design the work experience in accordance with the skills and abilities of their participants. Worksite supervisors are free to organize their worksite to suit their needs as long as the youth have a consistent professional experience, are available to participate in the training required by this program, and are able to work their entitled number of hours.

According to federal guidelines, positions offered to Workforce Investment Act youth should not unfavorably affect current employees, impair existing contracts or services or collective bargaining agreements, or displace current employees or replace employees that have been previously laid off.

Youth are enrolled on a referral basis from the Kenosha Unified School District, the Kenosha County Division of Children and Family Services, the Kenosha County Division of Workforce Development and other agencies working with youth. Youth who meet the WIA enrollment criteria become employees of the Boys & Girls Club. Youth workers are placed in worksites throughout the Kenosha County.

Worksites will be selected that match the needs and interests of the youth. Youth will be available to begin their work experience at the end of June 2010.
