The Paris Plan Commission and Town Board will host a public hearing on the town’s Smart Growth plan on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7 p.m., at the Town of Paris Safety Building, 16607 Burlington Road (Highway 142).

The purpose of the public hearing is to accept public comment on the plan as prepared by the Multi-jurisdictional Comprehensive Planning Advisory Committee and Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission.

Paris, in cooperation with eight other Kenosha County governmental units, has worked since late 2007 to develop a comprehensive plan for Kenosha County, identifying key issues facing the county and the town in order to address the nine elements required by Wisconsin’s Smart Growth Comprehensive Planning legislation. The county and the cooperating governmental units will use the plan to guide decisions regarding land use and development through the year 2035. Individual chapters came before the Plan Commission and the Town Board as drafted for consideration and input.

Beginning at 5 p.m., there will be an open house with maps, copies of the draft plan and other information available for public review. Members of the Town Board, Plan Commission, county planning staff and staff from Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission will be available to answer questions of interested parties in attendance. There will be no formal presentation during the open house.

The public is invited to speak on the plan at the formal public hearing. Written comments can be submitted to the Town Clerk prior to the meeting and shall become part of the record. The public hearing will be closed when all interested parties have had a chance to offer comment.

After the public hearing, the Plan Commission will meet to discuss comprehensive plan and make a recommendation to the Town Board regarding approval.
