The Silver Lake Village Board has instructed fire Chief Scott Barnes to have an old — and now infrequently used — piece of fire fighting equipment appraised in preparation for a possible sale.
The department’s 1969 Dodge “grass rig” might appeal to a collector, a museum or be sold for another use, trustees discussed.
The rig was originally designed to fight small-scale fires, like grass fires, but subsequently has been replaced by more modern and versatile equipment. The rig is currently stored in the Rescue Squad building.
Barnes suggested appraisals as a way to determine what the truck might bring in.
“I have no idea what we could get out of it,” Barnes told the board at Wednesday’s meeting.
The truck only has 7,00 miles on its odometer, said Trustee Richard Maron, who also is a fire department member.
The board instructed Barnes to try to get three appraisals and return to the board for further direction.
