Central boys basketball traveled to Lake Geneva to face the Badgers in a Southern Lakes Conference game on Thursday. The Falcons definitely looked to shut down two of the conference’s leading scorers — Badger’s Preston Dailey and Justin Bowers. And the plan certainly was effective.

Central came out fast in the first quarter with the sharp shooting of senior guard Dustin Milz. Milz hit 4 deep 3 pointers in the frame to put the Falcons out in front 18-9 after the first. In the second quarter, his running mates in the back court, Austin Damaschke and Spencer McCoy, picked up the scoring load. When McCoy hit a 3 pointer with just under 6 minutes in the quarter, the Falcons extended their lead to 27-10, which forced Badger Coach Dummer to call a timeout. Central went into halftime with a comfortable lead.

With just under 5 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, Erik Richter hit a layup and was fouled. He completed the 3 point play and put his team up 20. Badger plays a fast, up=tempo style, with no hesitation to shoot, and conference leading scorer Preston Dailey (18.3 points per game) and Laramie Wieseman helped to cut the lead to 49-35 heading into the final stanza. With time working against the Badgers they were forced to foul and Dailey fouled out with just over 2 minutes to play. Central’s Mike Michelau hit 3 straight free throws and put the Falcons up 64-51. With just under 1 minute to go, Badger hit a couple of bombs and cut the lead to 10 points. However with time dwindling Dustin Milz hit free throws to ice the game with Central winning 66-57.

Milz led with a season high 27 points followed by Richter with 9 and Damaschke with 8. Badger was led by Dailey with 13, Wieseman 10 and  Bowers, Schmitz and Andresen had 9 apiece.

Central goes to 5-3 in the conference and 5-10 overall. Badger falls to 1-7 in SLC and 2-10 on the season.
