State Rep. Samantha Kerkman (R-Randall) issued the following statement following Gov. James Doyle’s final State of the State Address and the decrease in revenues:
“I find it disheartening that Governor Doyle credits himself with creating or saving 44,000 jobs and for ‘saving’ companies such as U-Line and Mercury Marine. In reality, we nearly lost those businesses and the jobs they provide. Furthermore, our state has lost more than 160,000 jobs in the last year. Governor Doyle’s budget, signed into law last year, made Wisconsin even more uninviting to aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners. His budget included $5 billion higher taxes, which will affect hard working families and impact how many jobs businesses will be able to create in the near future to help put Wisconsin’s economy back on track.â€
‘Today, the Legislative Fiscal Bureau reported a $300 million decline in revenues to the Wisconsin General Fund. This is another example of why we need to focus on job creation and start putting people back to work, not creating more bloated, big government programs.â€
Kerkman’s district includes most of Western Kenosha County.
