A semi tractor trailer hit a bridge in the 15700 block of Highway N in Paris Monday.
There was structural damage to the bridge as a result of the impact. The semi continued 200 feet into a heavy forested tree line, said Sgt. Gil Benn, Sheriff’s Department spokesman. Fuel was leaked and semi truck and trailer was extensively damaged.
The state Department of Natural Resources and the county Highway Department responded. The road was closed for a while due to bridge damage.
A crew from the Highway Department was working at the scene Tuesday, but the road was open.
The driver of the semi told the Sheriff’s Department he was reaching for his cell phone at the time he drove off the road. He was received a ticket for inattentive driving.
