Falcons top Panthers in boys basketball

The Central Falcons boys hosted the Wilmot Panthers on Friday, in the first of their two games this season. The Falcons emerged victorious 63 to 56.

After a rousing rendition of the National Anthem by Central senior Sean Pitts on saxophone, the crowd was treated to an exciting high school basketball game. The crowd was loud on both sides of the gym cheering on their schools.

A trio of Falcon seniors, Erik Richter, Dustin Milz and Spencer McCoy, played a key part in dispatching Wilmot.

Central jumped out to an early 9-2 lead on the shooting of Austin Damaschke and Dustin Milz. Central took a 14-12 lead after one quarter. Central could not shake Wilmot’s up tempo game, with Chris Nelson and Landen Tenhagen constantly attacking the basket, the Falcons opened up a lead of three at the half, 26-23. In the third, Central more than kept up the pace against the Panthers, opening up a lead of 43-31 with 2:07 left in the quarter on the hot shooting of Spencer McCoy and inside touch of Erik Richter. Wilmot stormed back to close the gap to 4, 45-41 at the end of the 3rd due to Tenhagen, and Nelson doing the damage inside and out. Wilmot continued their comeback, taking the lead at 50-49, with Central tieing the game at 52 with 4:10 left in the game. Central outscored the Panthers 11-4 with Dustin Milz and Spencer McCoy hitting shots and free throws down the stretch, winning 63-56. Central was led by Dustin Milz with 19, Erik Richter with 14 and McCoy with 13. Wilmot was paced by Landon Tenhagen with 20, Chris Nelson with 16 and Grant Dull with 9.Central moves to 3-8 overall and 3-3 in the SLC. Wilmot falls to 2-9 and 0-5 in SLC.
