The Paddock Lake Village Board has purchased a wheel loader for $87,700.
The purchase, to be made in four annual payments, was approved unanimously by the board (Trustee Chris Bucko was absent.).
The purchase of a similar piece of equipment was rejected by the board in May, when only Trustees Joe Riesselmann and Kathy Christenson voted for it. Some trustees at that time cited the state of the economy as their reason for voting the purchase down.
The loader being purchased has 1,100 miles and is a 2006 model.
“It’s like brand new condition,” Riesselmann said.
In May, Riesselmann, who heads the board’s Public Works Committee, said a loader was needed to, among other tasks, efficiently load road salt into plow trucks. The village now has its own salt storage facility. In the past, public works personnel had used a bucket on a back hoe to load salt, a process that took seven loads to fill one truck.
