All homeowners in Silver Lake — except for the winners the last three years — are eligible to participate in the village’s annual holiday decorating contest.
This is the 13th year the village will conduct the contest, which awards prizes to the three homeowners whose houses are judged to best represent the spirit of Christmas.
“Whether it be the religious side of Christmas or the fantasy of the season, each home will be judged on its merits, originality and presentation,” said Trustee Ann Augustin, who organizes the contest.
On Thursday, Dec. 17, three judges will tour the village to determine which homes are the best of the best. The viewing will begin at 7 p.m. The judges are not residents of the village nor will they know the names of any participants as judging is done strictly by street address and the quality of the presentation.
Prizes are:
- $50 gift card donated by People’s Bank for first prize.
- $40 gift certificate for Taste of Itlay restaurant for second prize.
- $30 gift certificate for Scully’s Silver Lake Grill for third prize.
“Lately, everyone has commented on the large number of homes that look absolutely stunning, ” Augustin said. “We’re hoping that this year will be a stellar one.”
