People and their dogs come out for dog park

A photos with Santa fundraiser was bringing people and their dogs out to the temporary off-leash dog park set up at Old Settlers Park in Paddock Lake Saturday morning.

But a county official said there is encouraging use of the facility at other times as well.

The county is seeking to raise $25,000 from public donations to match $25,000 non-tax dollars for construction of fencing and gates for two permanent dog parks. One is to be located at the new county park being developed along Highway KD and the other will be at Petrifying Springs County Park in Somers. Five dollar donations for pictures with Santa were being taken this morning at Old Settlers and will be taken next Saturday at Petrifying Springs. At about 10:50 p.m. there were about 20 people and about that many dogs using the facility, with a stead flow of people coming and going.

Jonathon Rudie, general manager of parks operations for the county and Santa’s stand-in Saturday morning, said the temporary dog parks have been seeing use at other times as well. They were erected last week.
