Work at the site of the new Salem highway department/ fire station on Highway C has the blessing of the Town Board to proceed 24 hours seven days a week, if desired.

The board gave its sanction to the action at a special meeting Tuesday. However, town administrator Patrick Casey pointed out the approval wasn’t really necessary to avoid the town’s noise ordinance because the site is not within 300 yards of a residence.

A well digging contractor on the job had asked for permission to work around the clock, Casey said, though longer hours could be extended to other contractors on the job as well.
