The line for H1N1 vaccine at the County Center Satruday morning extended east down Highway 50.

If you drove by the County Center at Highway 50 this morning, saw the overflowing parking lot and long line and wondered what they were giving away the answer was flu prevention.

People started lining up as early as 5:30 a.m. to be ready for the county’s first H1N1 vaccination clinic, according to those near the head of the line. By the time the clinic opened its doors at 9 a.m., the line extended the length of the large building, and out east along Highway 50.

Today’s clinic was to last until 1 p.m.

Check this page for future clinics to be scheduled. While an extensive list of clinics was at this link late this week, the page now says future clinics will be scheduled when vaccines become available.

People had various reasons for braving chilly temperatures to wait in line for the vaccine. Most amounted to what one man, who I walked in with after we both parked along Highway 45, said: “Better safe than sorry.”

Deanna Russell was convinced to get the shots for her children after talking to their doctor, who was planning to get the shots for his own children. If it’s safe enough for his children, it’s good for hers, Russell said.

Here’s some video to try to give you idea of the size of the line at around 9:10 a.m.:

One of my sisters got infected with H1N1 or more commonly known as Swine Flu. Fortunately, she did not have very high fever and she was able to recover fast .
