Monitoring of motorists’ speed along a stretch of Highway AH has prompted Salem officials to petition the county to lower speed limits there.
The Town Board voted this week to seek the lower limit with the county through a letter.
The county did some monitoring of speeds on the highway after resident Vince Cherry spoke at the September board meeting about his concerns for safety in the area.
Speeds captured by a speed monitor the town shares with Bristol showed sufficient cause to seek the lower limit, said public safety officer David Shortess. The current speed limit there is 45 mph.
Cherry is particularly concerned about high speeds for westbound traffic because of sightlines in that direction.
