Paris firefighter Mike Jessen explains the equipment on one of the department's rigs at the department's open house Sunday.
The Paris Fire Department kicked off Fire Prevention Week with an open house Sunday.
Department personnel showed those attending around department equipment and eagerly answered questions. Occasional blasts of air horns and sirens also could be heard.
The open house was to build public awareness of the department, said firefighter Mike Passafaro, who handles public relations for the department.
“A lot of people don’t even know we’re here,” Passafaro said. But by about 12:30 p.m., about 60 people had attended.
The open house also featured fire safety themed giveaways like pencils, plastic firefighter helmets and stickers and refreshments. Flight for Life also visited with a helicopter.
Here are some more photos from the event:
The young man, Mike Jessen, shown in one of the pictures is a member of Paris’s newly formed firefighter Explorer Post. Fire Explorers are teens 14-18yrs old, male or female interested in the fire service. Mike has aspirations of becoming a firefighter when he graduates from high school. Please contact Paris Fire department if you have anyone interested in the program. You do not have to live in Paris to be a member of the post.
