Salem will be monitoring the speed of cars traveling in the area of the 22200 block of Highway AH (also 85th Street or Salem Road) in the wake of a complaint from a resident.
Vince Cherry, who lives there, told the Town Board Monday that he is concerned about the speed cars travel on that stretch of highway, especially given sight lines for westbound traffic.
“I’d like to see (the speed limit) lowered to around 30,” Cherry told the board. The speed limit at that spot is 45 mph.
Public safety officer David Shortess suggested putting a speed monitor, which the town owns jointly with Bristol, at the spot to see what actual speeds are. He was directed to do so as a first step.
