Buses approved for Randall guided study students

randall school name busRandall School students who participate in the after school guided study program may get the option of having a late bus take them home.

The extra buses were approved in concept by the School Board Wednesday night. The estimated $3,000 will have to be worked into the budget and drivers found to handle the routes before the new service can become official.

The guided study program is for students recommended by a teacher for additional study time , explained principal Travis Lawrence. It is scheduled to take place from 3:15 p.m. — general dismissal time — until 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The drivers selected for the later routes will basically be able to go back out after returning from their regular route.

A parent survey revealed some students were not able to participate in the program last year because they would not have a ride home, Lawrence said. The program had about 50 students last year. Lawrence speculated that more students would participate if transportation was provided.

But when Lawrence presented an estimate for the additional bus service, the expenditure quickly won support from the board.

The guided study program “gets to the heart and soul of why we’re here,” board member Randy Nolan said.
