Wheatland’s New Munster Park will be getting a new tree in honor of a woman known to have been a fan of softball games played there.
The town Recreation Board voted 6-0 Monday to accept the donation of a sunset maple tree in honor of Gert Lois to be planted at the park. Her family is making the donation, which will include placing a marker with her name at the tree as well.
Officials discussed that Lois was known to watch softball at the field.
“She and Bob did sit up there and watch a lot of games,” said town Clerk Sheila Siegler.
Along the leftfield line was discussed as a possible good location for the tree.
