The Wheatland Recreation Board is recommending some infield maintenance be done to the New Munster Park softball field.

The group is concerned with the diamond having the proper grade. Currently the field has problems with drainage and erosion in some spots.

Recreation Board member Mark Karow suggested investigating the installation of drainage tiles as well as the grading work. He said he is willing to have his construction company’s surveyor do some analysis of the field, which could help determine how much material and work would be needed to improve the facility.

Board Chairman Jeff Niederer said he would like to have the work done in mid October, to cause as little disruption as possible. The suggestion was made to do the grading work on a Saturday so more volunteers could pitch in.

When it comes time to bring field material to the site, town Chairman Bill Glembocki said he could truck it to the site to save on delivery costs.

The Town Board will need to act on the Recreation Board’s recommendation for the work to proceed.

The Recreation Board will also be recommending to the Town Board that the food stand roof be reshingled as well this fall. Specifications for the job will be circulated to local contractors for bids.
