Formed after the devastating tornados ripped through Kenosha County January 7, 2008, the Wheatland Tornado Recovery Committee is officially closed.
The committee raised approximately $90,000 to help families most in need to help offset the insurance gap after 25 homes were unsalvageable and many others were seriously damaged. During the regular Wheatland Town Board meeting tonight, the board voted to distribute the remaining $4700 to a local resident.
After unanimous approval, Town Chairman William Glembocki said the bank accounts will be closed and the committee dissolved.
While there were no members of the Tornado Recovery Committee present at the meeting, Glembocki expressed his gratitude to the many members who stepped up to help.
“Thanks for your service and a job well done,” he said. “You all did a great job and did a lot of stuff for a lot of people.”
