It’s been rough getting in events at the race track at the Kenosha County Fairgrounds during this year’s county fair due to daily rain.
But organizers are working on the track and will have it in shape for tonight’s scheduled racing program, barring a bad turn in the weather.
“Today, I think we’re going to make it work,” said George Krikau, who oversees the track’s operations.
Grading equipment was at work on the surface this afternoon.
There’s no rain in the forecast for today.
The truck and tractor pulls and combine demolition derby scehduled for Wednesday were cancelled. Pulling and combine demolition did come off Thursday, though rain started toward the end of the program.
Krikau said the combine demoliton derby is one of the most popular fair track events, so he was not surprised that a little rain did not deter the crowd Thursday.
“I believe it would take a tornado to remove the crowd for the combine demo derby,” Krikau said.
Tonight’s program calls for IRA sprint cars racing starting at 6 p.m. There is an additional $5 charge to get into the grandstand tonight.
The fair’s motorsports program concludes Sunday with two demolition derbies.
