Salem will begin talking with the Camp and Center Lake Rehabilitation District about the lake group’s proposal for paying for additional patrol on those lakes next season.

District Chairman Dean Hintzman appeared before the Town Board Monday to seek permission to talk over the concept for next season. The district is proposing paying $9,500 for 20 hours of additional water patrol on Camp and Center Lakes.

The lake district does not have a problem with the quality of water patrol, but would like more consistent patrol.

“We just want to know when the water patrol will be on these lakes,” Hintzman said.

Town administrator Patrick Casey said a major issue with any such arrangement would be figuring out how to staff the addiitonal patrol without impacting patrol of other lakes or costing too much.

“We need to figure out how to staff up,” Casey said. “We will not sacrifice our patrol on the other lakes for extra patrol on Camp and Center lakes.”

Hintzman said he wanted feedback from the town now so he could report at the district’s upcoming annual meeting. A motion to allow town staff and district representatives to begin talking about an arrangement was approved unanimously.
