Multiple signs have not solved the Wisconsin Lakeland Property Association's problem with trespassing on its Silver Lake private park property.
Silver Lake officials will look into ways to curb trespassing on land and piers owned by the Wisconsin Lakeland Property Association just east of the village’s public boat launch — but action won’t likely come until next season.
Jeff Kuper, a representative of the group, spoke to the group’s concerns about the situation at the Village Board meeting this week.
“These aren’t isolated incidents of trespassing,” said Kuper, who related instances of unauthorized boaters using the association’s piers, pavilion and portable rest room. “This isn’t a one-time shot.”
‘The source of the problem is there’s no public pier for them to use,” Kuper said.
Village President Roger Johnson said installing a pier for the public’s use at the launch could prove tricky because of a storm sewer that is located on the east side of the area, near the association’s property. Another possibility would be enlarging a small pier used by the police and fire departments on the west side of the launch. Others suggested the launch area is wide enough for a pier to be placed in the center.
Johnson said a more permanent solution to the problem likely would have to wait until next spring. But the group may get some immediate relief by the placing of a portable restroom on the launch property, which it is hoped will discourage people from entering the association property to use the group’s facility. That portable bathroom was already in place Thursday afternoon.
“Between now and next boating season we’ll do something,” Johnson said.
