Village staff in Twin Lakes is drafting an ordinance banning fireworks sales in the village.
That action comes after discussion of the topic at Monday’s Village Board committee of the whole meeting.
Banning fireworks sales has been advocated in the past by Trustee Thomas Connolly, who works as a fire prevention inspector in Schaumburg, Illinois. In his years as a firefighter he has seen even the most seemingly innocuous fireworks — like sparklers — cause serious injuries, he has said.
Village administrator David Cox said the ordinance could be ready for consideration and action at the next Village Board meeting Aug. 17 or might need to wait until September.
