Lakeland seniors fall short in state bid

Lakeland Seniors baseball team fell short in its bid to win the state championship Saturday, losing to Madison West 7 to 1. The teams played in Verona.

“We had a successful season, and even though we lost today, we ended on a positive note,” said Coach Jeff Neave

Lakeland hitting:

Three hits – Mike Sorensen, Sam Shelton, Jason Gackowski.

Lakeland pitching:

  • Dalton Sjong – 3 innings, 2 hits, 1 strikeout.
  • Luke Podella – 2 and a third innings, 3 hits, 2 strikeouts.
  • Anthony Anichini – 1 and two thirds innings, 1 hit, 4 strikeouts.

Lakeland committed five  errors allowing six unearned runs.

“This team has a great attitude and work ethic,” Neave said. “These guys will definitely make it back to this level and beyond.”
