Each year the Kenosha County Fair has a group of special competitions related to that year’s theme.
This year’s theme “Something to crow about,” has yielded a group of fine feathered exhibit classes to try your hand at.
- Vegetables — Rooster made from a minimum of five fruits and/or vegetables. Fruits and vegetables may be home-grown. Exhibits in this class will be accepted Tuesday of fair week, from noon to 8 p.m.
- Flowers — A potted plant “Hens and Chickens” (sempervivum tectorum) in a suitable container. Rules for Class F Potted Plants apply, except number 3. Planters with several plants are allowed. Exhibits will be accepted Friday of fair week, 9 a.m. to noon.
- Cultural Arts — Make a rooster using whatever materials you would like, except food. No molds allowed. Exhibits accepted Tuesday of fair week from noon to 8 p.m.
- Photography — Photo of one rooster. Photo must follow the other rules in the fair book under photography. Photo must be 8 inches by 10 inches mounted on a 14-inch by 14-inch black mounting board. Exhibits accepted Tuesday of fair week, noon to 8 p.m.
- Home Improvements — A table setting that is “something to crow about.” Follow rules for Division 28, Class D in the 2009-10 Fair Book.
No items will be released before Sunday of the fair at 9 p.m.
Premiums for these classes are first, $50; second, $25; third, $15. Win one of those and you’ll have something to crow about.
