We reported a while back that Paddock Lake’s Fourth of July fireworks, sponsored and paid for for years by Westosha Kiwanis, were running into a glitch with fundraising this year. In place of a raffle that raised almost $10,000 for the fireworks, this year the club was depending on generous donations from local businesses, individuals and from its own coffers. The club felt the $100-a-ticket raffle was not saleable in the current economy.
I was not able to find out just how much was raised, but a club representative assures me there will be fireworks over Paddock Lake tonight after dusk.
Also, Paddock Lake residents should not forget the Fourth of July decorated bike parade, which will start at 10 a.m., Saturday at McAlonan Park (73rd Street and 248th Avenue). Line-up is at 9:30 a.m., and participants need to register, so it’s good to get there early. The parade bikes over to Village Hall.
