Riverview School will likely seek no parking on either side of Prosser Street near the school to facilitate a new bus drop-off plan, said village Trustee Chris Willkomm, who also is a member of the School Board.
In the recent past, school buses have let off students on School Street, Willkomm explained. To separate students who are being dropped off by parents from the buses the school is investigating having buses unload on Prosser, the sought side of the school building. Cars dropping off students would continue to do so on School Street.
After letting off students, the buses would continue down Prosser toward the railroad tracks, turn around and exit the area. To make the maneuvering possible, no cars could park on Prosser opposite the school. The turnaround has already been tested with an actual bus.
No Village Board member objected to the parking prohibition.
The parking prohibition between 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. was only discussed Wednesday by the Village Board. Willkomm was looking for reaction and now will consult with the village attorney to draft an ordinance revision reflecting the parking prohibition, he said.

WHOSE IDEA WAS THIS ANYWAY? THE MAJORITY OF CHILDREN CROSS AT THAT INTERSECTION. RARELY THERE A CROSSING GUARD PRESENT IN THE MORNING. JUST WHO IS GOING TO BENEFIT FROM THIS CHANGE? CERTAINLY, NOT THE CHILDREN FROM THE OLD SECTION OF TOWN.
Hazel, my understanding is this was the school’s idea as part of a way to make the drop-off time at the start of school safer.
