Veteran’s Park, which lies just west of the more unsightly side of  Bristol Town Hall, may get a screening berm this summer.

Town administrator Randy Kerkman explained how a berm could be built along the east side of the park about six feet tall. That would be high enough to screen out some of the mechanical equipment, like generators, that are on that side of the hall and clearly visible from the park.

As an added incentive, the town expects to be able to obtain some dirt for the berm from the building of a new car dealership building at Interstate 94 and Highway 50.

Kerkman took the Town Board out to see the site during last week’s Town Board meeting.

Supervisor Colleen Fisch said the berm could make the park an even more desirable setting if the town is able to build a planned gazebo for concerts at the site.

Supervisor Carolyn Owens also suggested that the owners of the Bristol 45 Diner, which adjoins the park, be notified of the work.

Constructing the berm passed the board on a unanimous vote.

“We can always move it, it’s just dirt,” said Supervisor John McCabe. “It’s free delivery and free dirt. It’s a good thing.”
