Silver Lake will open the 13th season of the Concert in the Park season, Sunday, June 28.
The first concert of the season will begin at 5 p.m. in Schmalfeldt Park and will feature the Pat Crawford Big Band.
The Crawford band has played in Silver Lake twice before, and is a fan favorite, said village Trustee Ann Augustin, who coordinates the concert series.
“When I ask the audience what bands they wish to hear in the coming year, the Pat Crawford Big Band always is one of the top contenders,” Augustin said. “I am so glad that they agreed to return this year and be such an integral part of our summer series.”
The Crawford band is the successor to the John Bunic Big Band, which was well-known for concerts at Pennoyer Park, Kenosha, and elsewhere. The group, directed by Pat Crawford, plays a variety of big band music. The band’s set features pieces from Count Basie and Stan Kenton, as well as Frank Sinatra arrangements. Carole Crawford will be the lead vocalist, and Bill Janhke will be the featured singer.
As is customary at all the concerts, the Silver Lake Rescue Squad, coordinated by Barb Ironside, will have their famous brats and hot dogs for sale. The Silver Lake Fire & Rescue Auxiliary sell soft drinks and water. Proceeds benefit the respective organizations.
Those attending are reminded to bring lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on.
