Students at Trevor School remembered the true meaning of Memorial Day with songs, poetry, speeches and a moment of silence Friday morning.

The ceremony is an annual event coordinated by fifth grade  teacher Jan Sielski.

The event included inspiring words from Senior Chief Petty Officer Braun Crowder, United States Navy (Retired). Crowder was introduced by his daughter, Caitlyn, a Trevor student. He complemented the students in participating in a ceremony that stuck to the true spirit of the day.

“This is a day to remember those who are no longer with us, not those who are still here,” Crowder said.

The rest of the program incldued insirational and historical readings and several appropriate musical selections. Do you know the origins of the traditional military funeral song “Taps?” Rebecca Alter and Brendan Buhler explained:

Teacher William Wald also prepared a slide show of related images.
