The Randall Town Board lowered the non-resident season boat launch fee Thursday night in order to bring its fee structure in compliance with state regulations.

Non resident launch fees will be $22.50 now instead of $37.  Resident season launch fees remain $15.

Daily launch fees of $7 — resident and non-resident — remain unchanged.

Supervisor Rose Nolan made the motion to have the non-resident fee be 150 percent of the resident fee, as apparently called for in Department of Natural Resources regulations as a maximum.

But Supervisor Ken Mangold made a spirited case for leaving the fees as they are and fighting the DNR regulation.

“This whole set-up is improper,” Mangold said. “We need to fight this. I don’t think what we’re charging is unrealistic.”

Nolan’s motion that in effect lowered the non-resident rate passed 4 to 1, with Mangold opposing.

Chairman Bob Stoll said he conferred with the town’s attorney earlier Thursday and confirmed that the town’s old fees seemed to be in violation of the state law. But he encouraged Mangold to do more investigation of the issue and report back to the board.

“I’m going to look into this further,” Mangold said.
