State Rep. Samantha Kerkman issued the following statement regarding the planned closing of Chrysler’s Kenosha Engine Plant in 2010.
The recent news coming from Chrysler has dealt another major blow to the state of Wisconsin, especially for Kenosha and the surrounding communities. My
thoughts and prayers are with the workers and their families during this difficult and uncertain time. I have had the privilege of getting to know many of them over the years and believe they are good, hard-working people that have helped make Kenosha a great community in which to live.I intend to work closely with my colleagues and officials with the Department of Commerce and the Department of Workforce Development in finding ways to assist the displaced workers and their families. We need to do everything we can to provide them with the employment opportunities they need in order to stay here and help get our local and state economy back on track. We’re facing a major obstacle right now, but I know the community is strong and I am confident that Kenosha will recover and overcome this.
I encourage the workers affected by the closing of the Chrysler plant to contact their local job center about the services and opportunities available to them. They may visit www.wisconsinjobcenter.org/directory, or call 888-258-9966.”
