The Twin Lakes Plan Commission Wednesday night recommended granting a request made by Black Bull Fireworks for retail fireworks sales from a tent.

The company did sell fireworks in the village last year. At Monday’s Village Board meeting, Trustee Tom Connolly, who works as a fire prevention inspector in Schaumburg, said he would like to see all fireworks sales banned in the village.

Black Bull’s request for the 2009 season will be voted on by the Village Board at a special meeting May 4. It would require a five of seven vote of the board to pass, said David Cox, village administrator.

Village President Howard Skinner advised Black Bull representatives at the Plan Commission meeting that the board was considering Connolly’s proposal of a ban and that permission for the sale was not guaranteed, Cox said.

Connolly said Monday that he based his objection to fireworks sales on his long experience in fire service. He warns that even seemingly innocuous fireworks — like sparklers — are dangerous and can cause injuries.
