Tesar leads last meeting as Salem chairman

diann-tesar1“It’s sad to be here,” Diann Tesar said, as she began her last Salem Town Board meeting as chairman. It was an emotional moment as she composed herself and thanked everyone for their support.

Tesar has been a member of the Town Board for the past 18 years, serving the last four as chairman. She lost that seat to challenger Linda Valentine 673 to 585 April 7.

Valentine praised Tesar during citizens comments.

“Diann has worked hard in the town. She is a treasure, a Salem jewel. I would entertain her advice,” Valentine said .

“I appreciate your comments,” Tesar replied. Then she defended a comment made that the town was lacking in communications, stating she was always available to her constituents and everyone had access to her e-mail.

“I am very proud of my accomplishments,” Tesar said. “We don’t spend a lot of money.”

During her 18 years, Tesar has only missed one board meeting.

Supervisors Josephine Weidman, Joe Meier and Dennis Faber spoke highly of Tesar

“I was proud to be on the board with you,” Weidman said.

“My heart will always be in Salem,” Tesar said.
