UPDATE 3:03 p.m. -- Fire under control and traffic reopened in eastbound lanes of Geneva Road.

Salem chairman seeking contracts for department superintendents
Salem Chairman Linda Valentine is seeking to have the town enter into employment contracts with the top superintendents of town departments.
Contracts would be a matter of fairness, Valentine said, for the superintendents because many were hired before the town administrator was hired. When hired, they reported to the Town Board. Now the town administrator can hire or fire the superintendents.
"We changed the rules," Valentine said.
Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast to benefit The Sharing Center

United Way of Kenosha County in partnership with Carthage College and University of Wisconsin-Parkside announce the return of the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) for 2010.

Plan for Heath property given nod at least for now
Plans to tear down a 100-year old home while trying to save a barn of similar age on a property in Salem won the approval of the Salem Town Board.

At 9:05 p.m., multiple units from Salem Fire/Rescue and Bristol Fire and Rescue are responding to a garage fire in the 8900 block of 270th Avenue, Salem.

Paddock Lake buys wheel loader
The Paddock Lake Village Board has purchased a wheel loader for $87,700.
The purchase, to be made in four annual payments, was approved unanimously by the board (Trustee Chris Bucko was absent.).
The purchase of a similar piece of equipment was rejected by the board in May, when only Trustees Joe Riesselmann and Kathy Christenson voted for it. Some trustees at that time cited the state of the economy as their reason for voting the purchase down.

At 7:40 a.m., deputies and Salem Fire/Rescue are responding to an accident at Highway 83 (Antioch Road) and Highway AH.
Two people are reporting injuries -- one to a leg one to a neck. Apparently only one vehicle -- a truck -- involved.
UPDATE 8:08 a.m. -- One person being transported by Salem Fire/Rescue to a hospital.
