Salem takes stand against statewide sex offender residency law
The Salem Town Board will be sending a letter to the state legislature stating the town's opposition to a bill that seeks to establish statewide standards for where released sex offenders can live and frequent.

Twin Lakes may break out library levy on tax bills
Twin Lakes is considering breaking out the amount levied for its contribution to the Community Library on future tax bills.
The village does not control the amount of the library levy. Instead, it is set by a formula in state law.
Trustee Sharon Bower, who serves as a village representative on the library's governing board, requested the consideration of the break-out on future bills.

Twin Lakes swears in new police lieutenants
The individuals selected to fill three new lieutenant positions on the Twin Lakes Police Department -- Dennis Linn, Joseph Balog and John Andrews -- were sworn in Tuesday.
The ceremony was conducted by Dave Cox, village administrator, with family members and friends, Village Board members, members of the Police Commission and members of the police force in attendance.

The Twin Lakes Village Board has approved the purchase of a new piece of equipment for the Fire Department.
The purchase of a Pierce Arrow XT Heavy Duty Aluminum Aerial Ladder vehicle for $640,000 from Reliant Fire Apparatus of Cedarburg was approved Monday.
The new truck, when delivered, will replace the village's current 1989 Pierce Arrow aerial ladder truck, said David Cox, village administrator.
The truck was financed through the issuing of general obligation promissory notes.

Units responding to report of flames at home in Twin Lakes
At 6:39 a.m., units from the Twin Lakes fire and police departments are responding to a report of flames but no smoke visible at a home at Haerle and Porter. The home is a summer home undergoing remodeling.
UPDATE 6:41 a.m. -- Personnel at the scene have located the flames. Cause was a propane heater that caught some material on fire. Fire is out.

An open house was held at Twin Lakes Village Hall this evening in honor of police Officer Wyane Trongeau, who retired today after 37 years on the force.

Twin Lakes considering changes to dog ordinance
Twin Lakes is considering changes to its ordinance on vicious dogs that could give animals some leeway in certain defensive situations.
The need to consider changes to the ordinance was brought up by Trustee Thomas Connolly. He felt the ordinance was flawed because a dog that bit someone trespassing on the property where the dog lived could still be designated vicious and possibly removed from the village, he said.
"I felt that was wrong," Connolly said. "It shouldn't be written that way."

Twin Lakes will begin housing a Western Kenosha County Transit bus after action taken by the Village Board Monday.

At 1:40 p.m., the Town of Wheatland Fire Department is responding to a fire in the oven of a home in the 7600 block of 335th Avenue, in the Lily Lake area.

Rescue, fire departments busy with multiple calls
From about 3:15 to 3:30 p.m., Randall and Twin Lakes fire and rescue personnel were busy responding to calls:
- An injured skier at Wilmot Mountain. A skier hit his head hard enough to crack a helmet, but apparently not seriously injured.
- A driver of a car in the ditch in the 7600 block of Highway O is apparently having a diabetic reaction.
