Death penalty ban sought for man accused in slaying of Trevor woman
Attorneys for James Ealy, the man accused of murdering Trevor resident Mary Hutchinson, are seeking to bar the state of Illinois from seeking the death penalty in his case, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting.

At 3:54 p.m., Salem Fire/Rescue units and Sheriff's Department deputies are responding to a report of a fire at 113th Street and 269th Avenue, Trevor.
The fire was reportedly set by two juveniles in a wooded area near a pond, according to scanner transmissions.

Benefit set to help Brighton woman
A benefit to aid the wife of a slain Brighton man will be held on Saturday, Oct. 24, beginning at 2 p.m. at Wagner’s Tavern, 23818 60th St. (Highway K), Brighton.
Robin “Byrd” Leydel died from a single gunshot to the chest following a home invasion on Oct. 13. Four men have been charged in connection with Leydel's death.

Dale Simek, a tree worker from Trevor, died after falling from a tree in a Milwaukee suburb today, the Associated Press is reporting.

Wilmot 2 tops Wheatland Firemen’s Fest water fights
It's summer fire department festival time and that means water fights.
Water fights were part of the weekend festivities at Wheatland -- business people Saturday and firefighters Sunday. In the contests, four-person hose teams battle to push a barrel over the other team's line.
The host team came in fourth Sunday with third place going to Wilmot 4.
Boone County came in second, falling to Wilmot 2.

The Sheriff's Department has identified the victims in the crash in the 29600 block of Highway K, Brighton, yesterday evening as:
- Denise Dooley, 18, driver, deceased.
- Alivia Manon, 18, front passenger, deceased.
- Tanya Nitschneider, 18, rear passenger, non-life threatening injuries.

Two teenage girls died in a car crash Wednesday evening.
Kenosha County sheriff's deputies responded at 7:16 p.m. to a report of fatal accident in the Brighton. The single vehicle crash occurred in 29600 block of Highway K (60th Street). Man has ‘93 Caddy stolen from driveway
A man had his 1993 Cadillac DeVille stolen from his Trevor driveway Tuesday evening.
The man told police he had left the car running with the windows open while he was inside his house in the 11900 block of 254th Avenue for five to seven minutes. When he returned outside, the car was gone.
Total value for the car and its stereo equipment was $2,400, a Sheriff's Department report said.

Wilmot HS aiming to use less paper
Wilmot High School may be going green by September.
The district is planning to leave most paper behind and in the process, help to save trees and necessary funds. At Tuesday's school board meeting, Principal Chris Trottier outlined a plan to become more fiscally responsible and efficient by eliminating most bulk mailings.

Have you always meant to see "Les Miserables?" Were you meaning to get to Central High School's student production of "Les Miserables" but missed it?
You're in luck. Wilmot High School is performing the same play this weekend.
Wilmot theater and music students will perform "Les Miserables" on:
- Friday at 7:30 p.m.
- Saturday at 1 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
- Sunday at 2 p.m.

The advice from a panel of law enforcement officers, school officials, a circuit court judge and some teens about how to keep youngsters out of trouble with drugs and alcohol at parties came down to one idea.
