West of the I municipalities continue to opt for letting voters have a say on new taxes to support a regional public transportation.
Last week, Silver Lake and Paddock Lake opted for Nov. 2 referendums on the issue. This week, Randall authorized essentially the same vote.
Previously, Bristol and Twin Lakes had approved such votes.

Firefighter Norden funeral photos
Funeral services for Firefighter EMT-Paramedic Eric Norden were held today at Holy Cross Church-West in Wilmot.

Silver Lake may be getting tougher on property owners that do not cut grass or weeds before they get too long.
The Village Board Monday heard a first reading of an ordinance that would allow the village to impose a $500 fine in addition to the cost of having the property mowed for violators of the six-inch grass/weed maximum length. Sewer fees increased in Silver Lake
The Silver Lake Village Board made a sewer fee increase it proposed last month official Wednesday.
The new sewer fee for a residential property will be $140 per quarter, an increase of $14. It will be effective with the third quarter bill this year.

After a recent inspection by the village's liability insurance carrier, Silver Lake is considering demolishing a storage building on the rescue squad property and some out of repair sidewalks in town, rather than pay to replace them.

Silver Lake approves road paving projects for 2010
The Silver Lake Village Board has approved $171,000 in road paving projects for the current year.
The board will borrow that money from Peoples Bank at 4.1 percent interest for five years.
Included in the project will be:
- East and West Elm Street.
- Lawn Court.
- Prairie Drive.
- Oak Street.

Silver Lake considering increase in sewer fees
The Silver Lake Village Board is considering an increase in sewer fees.
The ordinance establishing the fees had a first reading at Wednesday's Village Board meeting. Consequently, no vote was taken.
Current fees for a residential home are $126 per quarter. The proposed new fee would be $140 per quarter for a residential home.

Yesterday, Silver Lake Trustee Chris Willkomm was picking up geese waste at DeWitt Park Beach.
Today, the beach has been closed until further notice due to high bacteria counts in the water there, village staff reports.

Recent rainy weather has had the unpleasant effect of washing a lot of geese waste from Silver Lake onto DeWitt Park beach.
With the village Public Works Department already short-handed, Trustee Chris Willkomm decided Thursday to take the matter into his own hands. Well not exactly his hands, but you get the idea. Willkomm went down to the beach Thursday afternoon to scoop waste off the beach.

The Silver Lake Fire Department's Annual Firemen's festival will take place at Schmalfeldt Park July 2 and 3.

Warrant issued for Boss’ arrest on three charges; deputies following leads
Efforts to capture Howard Boss, who police say was armed and fled a traffic stop on Highway 50 in Salem Tuesday leading to a six-hour active man hunt, continue. This afternoon, a warrant for his arrest on three charges was signed by Circuit Court Judge Anthony G. Milisauskas.

At about 9 a.m., sheriff's deputies are pursuing a suspect who fled in the area of Highway 50 and Highway B. Scanner traffic suggest deputies believe the suspect is armed.

Silver Lake grass rig has a new home
The Silver Lake Fire Department's old 1969 Dodge “grass rig” has a new home.
The department has been working on selling the truck since early this year. The truck was originally designed to fight small-scale fires, like grass fires, but subsequently has been replaced by more modern and versatile equipment. The rig was being stored in the Rescue Squad building.
