Central HS students build cabinets for schools

This past semester, two Central High School seniors, Nick Abel and Gary Kreuger, produced three cabinets for local grade schools through the Technology Education Department. Salem PTO appreciates Dousman bus drivers

Members of the Salem School PTO showed their appreciation for a job well done by the school's bus drivers last Friday at the Dousman Transport Co., Inc. terminal in Wilmot. The PTO offered a spread of donuts and bagels for a post morning route snack for the drivers.

An almost overwhelming array of activities and talents were on display at "We're Thrilled About Salem School," Thursday night. There were educational displays like how the school uses Smartboards in the classroom. There were athletic activities like rock wall climbing and tchoukball. Salem Booster Club to host 3 on 3 tournament

The Salem Booster Club will be hosting a 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Feb. 21 at Salem School. Competition is open to any school. The event begins at 9 a.m.  Start times for individual teams will vary. The entry fee per three-person team is $30. There also will be a three-point contest with a $3 entry fee per participant. Team brackets will be:
  • Boys -- grades 3-4

Salem School fifth graders donate $2,550 to Red Cross for Haiti earthquake relief

Wonder how far the $2,550 in pennies, nickels, quarters, dime and bills Alyson Davis' fifth grade class collected will go toward helping people in earhquake sricken Haiti? If the money were all to be used for food, at 30 cents a meal, it could feed 8,500 people there, the class was told by Red Cross representative Kurt Worden. Salem PTO to host Family Fun Night Friday

The Salem School PTO will host its third annual Family Fun and Games Night this Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. The event wil take place in Salem School's main gym, cafetorium and LGI room. The event is designed as an educational evening of good old fashioned game playing. A parent or parents are expected to attend with children. All ages are welcome (preschool games and activities will be available). Among the activities planned include:

Salem students battling with coins to benefit earthquake victims

Students in Alyson Davis' fifth grade class at Salem School have found a fun way to help earthquake victims in Haiti and get their whole school -- and perhaps the community beyond -- involved. All this week, Davis's class is leading a penny challenge to benefit those in need in Haiti. "My students and I were discussing the earthquake and tragedy in Haiti," Davis explained. Salem School to hold kindergarten registration Jan 25-Feb. 5

Kindergarten registration for Salem School will be Jan. 25 through Feb. 5, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m, at the school. Registration is for all children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2010 and plan to attend Salem. Parents must bring a copy of the child's birth certificate to registration. Bristol Shootout: Lakewood and Randall champs

Today was the final day of the Bristol Shootout grade school A and B teams boys basketball tournament at Bristol School.

Lakewood took the A team bracket championship.

Randall took the B team bracket championship. Here are today's results, supplied by Salem B Coach Jim Valentine:

  • Lakewood (first) defeated Williams Bay (2nd) 46 to 24.
  • Salem (third) defeated host Bristol (fourth) 27 to 6.

Salem will have contest for school board seats

Five candidates running for three board slots means there will be a contest for Salem School Board on April 6. Filing papers last week to appear on the ballot were:
  • Peggy Aull, incumbent.
  • Lisa Hinze, incumbent.
  • Roxanne Chavella Brewington.
  • Cynthia Sam Corbette.
  • Barbara Ingram.

The Salem Booster Club has filled the boys basketball B team coaching slots it had open due to a rule that put the first coach prospect into conflict with conference rules. Third graders make blankets for Women and Children’s Horizons

Salem School students in Anne Woodward’s third grade class recently tied blankets for the class’ annual donation to Women and Children’s Horizons.

Adult volunteers cut the ties, and teams of students completed 10 blankets for the community service project. Each blanket was delivered in a decorated bag with a handmade card.

Salem third graders celebrate Colonial Christmas

Salem School third graders and their guests recently took part in the annual Colonial Christmas celebration. Students danced, made oiled window decorations, made a ball and cup game and wrote with quill pens to get a sense of life in colonial America. Parents, grandparents and Thomas Jefferson also attended the afternoon event.

Salem teacher transported to hospital after falling in class

A Salem School fourth grade teacher fell and hit her head on a countertop in her classroom today. She was transported to the hospital and received stitches  for a head cut, said district administrator. She was later released and was resting at home this afternoon. The Score delivers sports equipment to Salem School

Two weeks ago two radio hosts Team Mully and Hanley from The Score 670 AM collected donations on behalf of the Salem Booster Club during a broadcast from Union Station, Chicago. Today the goods were delivered in two boxes that contained 15 basketballs, a bucket of softballs, bats, batting helmets, volleyballs  and other miscellaneous equipment. Salem to discuss school consolidation in January

Salem students move cup stacking event toward record

Salem School added over 60 students to the World Sport Stacking Association's quest to set a new world. The effort was sanctioned by the Guiness World Record people and was taking place across the world today. Last year's event racked up 222,560 stackers. Students in Salem School's cup stacking club will be going for a world record attempt Thursday. The Salem students will be participating in the Fourth Annual World Sport Stacking Association STACK UP! The event is sanctioned by the Guinness Book of World Records.
