Randall approves open enrollment applications
The Randall School Board approved 58 incoming applications for open enrollment Wednesday night.
The district also approved 19 applications for Randall District students to open enroll elsewhere.

Preliminary vote totals in the Randall School Board primary show Linda Smith being eliminated from the field that will compete for two seats this April.
Receiving the most votes was James O'Connell with 140.
Incumbent William Jones received 85 votes.
Janice Brockway received 68 votes.
Shari Kuwik received 54 votes.
Smith received 36 votes.

There will be non-partisan primary elections Tuesday in Paddock Lake, Salem and the Randall School District, which includes portions of Randall and Twin Lakes.
Polls will be open where necessary from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Randall School Board candidates air their views at forum
Candidates for the Randall School Board gave their views on six topics at a forum Monday afternoon sponsored by the district's teachers' union.
All five candidates appeared at the forum and answered questions that they were given ahead of time. About 17 people attended, most of them being school staff.

Dog parks may get $12,000 donation
The effort to raise $25,000 in matching funds to build two off-leash dog parks in Kenosha County may get a big boost if an anonymous person's pending $12,000 donation is completed.
Mark Modory, the county supervisor who has been spearheading the drive to build the parks, said a person has approached the county about buying naming rights for the parks. In exchange, the person is willing to donate $12,000.

Randall School's Teachers' Union is sponsoring a panel discussion for the five residents that are running for the school board in the Feb. 16 primary election.

Today was the final day of the Bristol Shootout grade school A and B teams boys basketball tournament at Bristol School.
Lakewood took the A team bracket championship.

Randall School race requires primary
The number of candidates filing to run for Randall School Board will require a primary, the only such school board race in Western Kenosha County.
Two positions ultimately will be filled. Filing to run are:
- William Jones, an incumbent.
- Shari Kuwik.
- Janice Brockway.
- James O'Connell.
- Linda Smith.

Rescue, fire departments busy with multiple calls
From about 3:15 to 3:30 p.m., Randall and Twin Lakes fire and rescue personnel were busy responding to calls:
- An injured skier at Wilmot Mountain. A skier hit his head hard enough to crack a helmet, but apparently not seriously injured.
- A driver of a car in the ditch in the 7600 block of Highway O is apparently having a diabetic reaction.
- A student at Randall School was hit in the head by a falling basketball hoop. He is bleeding, but it

The Salem Booster Club hosted a preseason girls basketball tournament Saturday.
Playing were Salem, Randall, Bristol and Wheatland. Salem defeated Randall in the championship game.

New Randall copier satisfies supervisor’s national security concerns
What started as a seemingly routine renewing of a lease for a copier in July instead turned into a process that resulted in a significant upgrade in technology for Randall officials and staff, adding color, networking and eliminating old equipment.

Schools to handle swine flu cases differently this year
Health officials are advising a shorter stay at home for students who may have the H1N1 or swine flu virus this school year, the Randall School Board learned Wednesday night.
Randall School nurse Mary Kay Kempken gave a presentation to the board based in large part on how the county Health Department wants to handle cases of H1N1 this year.

Randall wants buses to use cul de sacs
Schools that pick-up children by bus in Randall will be getting a letter asking bus drivers to avoid making three-point turns rather than using cul de sacs.
The issue arose because of complaints about a Randall School bus doing a turnaround at 377th Avenue and 89th Place instead of driving down to a cul de sac to exit the neighborhood, as the streets were designed.
